- In the motor industry things move very quickly and changes to technical skills are as rapid as the development of new and higher performing cars.
- The first tasks you will undertake, involve practically dismantling an engine and other components of the vehicle.
- With a fully equipped garage workshop, you will be expected to work in a highly responsible manner, in order to be safe as you handle potentially dangerous machinery.
- You will start by working towards a Level 1 NVQ qualification, once completed you will find yourself fully prepared to progress onto the Level 2 NVQ qualification having had lots of hands on-experience.

- Students start cutting on blocks in the first term, to ensure the maximum amount of time to practice.
- The first cut to learn is a one length cut on longer hair. After this has been mastered, students move on to layering and graduation cuts.
- The first practical lesson will normally cover shampooing each others hair, learning how to prepare a client for a service, putting the gown on correctly, etc.
- You do also get to work on proper paying clients, so that you really do experience what it is like to work in industry.
- There is a warm friendly atmosphere amongst all the groups, working together can be fun and you get to have your own hair done frequently

- You will learn the rudiments of carpentry, brick laying, painting and decorating as well as setting out a site.
- Students are encouraged to work in small groups, enabling them to move on to tackle bigger jobs.
- It takes time to build up skills but there will be plenty of opportunities to practice as there is very little theory in the initial course.

- For many students joining the childcare group might possibly be their first taste of actually caring for small children. Whereas for others it may be something they have been part of during previous years, either in school, nurseries or perhaps looking after children within the family
- The first lesson will normally cover looking at what the childcare award will involve. It is a portfolio based qualification. It will be a 2 year course covering two separate awards: the Certificate and the NVQ, both at Level 2. The 2nd year will be more practical based.
- Small children grow into larger children. Our course will prepare you for all ages of children from toddler to teenager. We will help you to understand their needs and interests at each stage of development.
- There is a warm friendly atmosphere amongst all the groups, working together can be fun and you also get to work in your choice of nursery, pre-school or day centre, to build up your experience of working with children.
- The theory can be quite daunting for some students. However, lots of the evidence you need to gain can come from the practical things you do when at the placement in a day nursery.
- You can get other experts to record what you have done, or you can be assessed officially by one of our assessors, visiting you in the workplace... or you can even write your own report about what you have done.
Beauty Therapy

- You can specialise in skin care, nails, holistic therapies or even media make up for television work. This course is the perfect foundation in order to progress into other areas.
- The Facial unit is one of the larger units on the course, involving the most amount of work. However, it is also considered one of the best treatments to have done, and students enjoy working together and having facials done by their fellow students.
- The first practical lesson will normally cover setting up the couch and the trolley, ensuring everywhere is spotlessly clean and reinforcing the understanding and importance for hygiene.
- The theory can be quite daunting for some students, because beauty therapy is not just about applying make up and looking good. It needs commitment and a strong desire to please other people.
- You also need to work on paying clients, so that you really do experience what it is like to work in industry.
